The
prayer needs for Israel would appear obvious to many. However,
there are several key areas for strategically targeted prayer
on her behalf.
Israel’s controversial Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, has
been lying in a coma for weeks as Israeli governmental elections
draw near. It was the opinion of many that God struck Sharon down
as punishment for the evacuation of illegal Jewish settlements
in Palestinian-dominated territories. However, Sharon’s
newly organized political party still commands a powerful lead
in the polls; no candidate has come close to Ehud Olmert’s
standings.
Recently, the democratic electoral process brought the Hamas Terrorist
Party to a position of significant influence, overthrowing 40
years of corruption at the hand of Palestinian rule. How will
this new political environment affect the Palestinians, given
Hamas’ commitment to the propagation of terror in the region
and around the world? Did the Palestinians elect an administration
dedicated to ending their oppression, or did they effectively
empower additional years of misery? What will become of the remaining
Palestinian Christians in the area? How can God move in this new
reality?
Religious Zionist settlers are in defiance of the rule of law,
and of the Israeli government’s dismantling of outposts
within the contested regions most difficult to defend. As a result,
violence is escalating. The split between religious zealots and
the general population has created an instability Israel cannot
afford. Do Christians understand the gravity of this situation
and how it impacts and compromises Israel’s security?
Daily, Jewish Believers in Jesus are being persecuted in Israel
by religious extremists. Prolonged, intense persecution has profoundly
affected believing communities in the Negev Desert towns of Arad
and Beer Sheva, for example.
No prayer need in Israel is more prioritized in the heart of God
than prayer for the believers in Jesus. Hebrews 7: 25 says “those
who draw near to God through Him,” Jesus is able to save
“since He ever lives to make intercession for them.”
Believers in Israel top His prayer list! Why? It is because it
is His Body in Israel who carries the good news of a future and
hope for all Israel.
Isaiah looked forward to our day and saw both the spiritual warfare
and the victory of His Body in Israel in Isaiah 8:18, "Behold,
I and the children whom the Lord has given Me are for signs and
wonders in Israel from the Lord of heaven’s armies."
Whenever we pray over Israel, let’s remember how Jesus prioritizes
the believers in Israel in His own intercessions—that they
would fulfill God’s calling to be with His Son for “signs
and wonders in Israel.”

If Jesus visited Israel today to encourage His
people,
who would He make it His priority to see?
